Will I get Burned?

Every day we here the saying “don’t try this at home.  This could be the perfect saying for FireWalking.

It is only in a professionally run event, with the guidance of professionals This experience run by us will be a safe and enjoyable experience. The reasons for this are complex and the theories as to why injury to the feet is avoided and many and varied. Everyone has their own reason why they walk the fire.

Can I get burned?

Of course there is a risk..

You are stepping on embers or coals which can reach temperatures of 1000°Fahrenheit. However, over the last 3 years of running our FireWalk events we have never ever had anyone get burned and have taken hundreds and hundreds of people over the coals.

A well run and well organised firewalk should result in no injury at all or at worse some small blisters which a little bit of Aloe Vera will sort.

Every event will receive a complete and full risk assessment before the event  – we have been know to move the location as a result – we will also send a standard risk assessment guide to either the venue or you. Our number one priority is that no-one gets hurt.

How much do we need to raise?

Little Heroes asks that everyone who takes part provides a deposit of £25.00 the deposit is included in the total amount you raise) and agree to a minimum fundraising target of £125 (but obviously we encourage you to generate far more!).

What happens during a Firewalk training session?

We will guide you and prepare you for the ability to walk safely over the coals  We use interaction and participation to help you  Finally, the most amazing experience walking on fire.

How is it possible?

There are many different theories behind walking over hot coals barefooted without injury.

Scientific – based on principles of heat and thermal insulation – have you ever juggled a baked potato between your hands – that’s one theory.

Some scientists even suggest the ‘Leidenfrost Effect’ may play a part. This occurs when a cold wet object (the foot) contacts a hot dry object (the coals); the resulting water vapours form a barrier of steam and since steam is a relatively poor conductor of heat, the foot remains unharmed.

Yet there appears to be no ‘physical’ explanation for why FireWalking is possible which leaves room for the ‘non-scientific’ approach. – ‘heightened body energy’ and an enhanced state of consciousness.

Who will be teaching me how to walk on fire?

The FireWalk will be run by Little Heroes the only charity in the UK that has its own dedicated fully qualified FireWalk Instructor; trained by the world record holder ‘Scott Bell’, who in turn was trained by the founder of modern day FireWalking Tolly.

Who can do this?

Anyone who can walk and is capable of understanding an informative presentation can walk on fire. We have a lower age limit of 18 years.

What if I stop halfway?

Despite the fact that no-one has ever to our knowledge stopped halfway through a FireWalk, it is a question that is often asked! The fact that you will be ready to walk the walk before hand. The easiest way to explain why you will not stop is the same idea as crossing the road.

When you standinga t a pedestrian crossing and you hear the beeping to cross, you start to walk across – you don’t stop half way. You focus on getting to the other side. That’s the same as FireWalking, you focus on getting to the other side.

Has anyone ever been hurt?

Activities such as parachuting, bungee jumping or abseiling all involve an element of risk and FireWalking is no exception to this. Unlike these activities, no mortalities have ever occurred FireWalking.

FireWalking can indeed be a dangerous activity if the training is carried out by inexperienced instructors or fire team members.

Likewise, injuries can occur – should the participants fail to adhere to the exact instructions given to them during the seminar.

Will I be forced to walk the fire?

Absolutely not!

At any Firewalking event, no-one is forced to participate.

The whole idea of any successful FireWalk is that it is you taking the decision, not us and definitely no other person.
